I set everything up in settings and then sent “Shapeoko 4” configuration. Everything initialized fine but when I hit “jog” to try and set up my BitSetter, the Z just probes down until it crashes into the wasteboard. No matter what I seem to change, the Z keeps probing. Does this have to do with the bitsetter being plugged in even though I don’t have it enabled yet? Help!
If the router/spindle is probing the BitSetter it is enabled. The BitSetter has a green light and turns red when the plunger is depressed. So check that manually. If the light is not on or it is red all the time then there is a connection and/or a wiring problem. Recheck your wiring and connections.
To review the configuration. Power on the Shapeoko and connect but DO NOT initialize. Go to settings and the second tab comes up first. Uncheck the BitSetter and go back to the first tab and pick your machine and Z. Send the configuration. Then initialize and the router should stay at the back right corner when initialization completes. Jog to the BitSetter and open the settings and use the current position to set the BitSetter position. Then check the BitSetter on and initialize. The router should go to the back right corner and then come to the front center and ask for a bit. Then the router will travel over to the BitSetter and probe twice. The first probe is fast and the green light will turn red when the router gets the plunger depressed all the way and then rise and slowly go back down and again the green light will turn red. After that the router will return to the front center and you are ready to start the X Y and Z zeroing and start a job.
You should get a confirmation that the configuration has completed. The configuration is mainly configuring the Carbide Motion application that sets the jogging limits. The machine knows what it is but Carbide Motion is what is primarily configured. The minimum motion is the default when jogging so you usually have to adjust the speed up when initially starting Carbide Motion.
