Installed a new XXL setup with Z-Plus. I’ve checked the squareness and overall level multiple times. I’m getting this homing results of -0.118 for XYZ and I thought it was supposed to be closer to -5,-5,-5 for the XYZ axis. Has anyone experienced this before or have any points to resolve? Thanks
What results?..
Hey Edward,
Welcome to the community! I’m not sure which results you were getting, were you going to post a screen shot? Have you tried running any jobs yet or have issues running jobs? Are you just concerned with the offset you’re seeing after initialization/homing?
Working with homing tutorial states that the $27 GRBL default setting which determines the homing pull-off is 1mm.
Sorry for spacing on the post of the pic. I’ve added it to the main post.
When the machine homes it moves to the switches and then moves off zero. 3MM is .118 inches so I am assuming after homing you are looking at the current position. What firmware are you on. I thought that the current firmware would move 6MM off from zero in the “Home” position but I may be wrong.
If it is 3MM or 6MM I think you are just seeing the normal homing position. The machine can be moved to Zero but during homing the position is never at zero for X & Y or Z
FYI the Shapeoko really runs in metric. You can select inch but underneath the covers the machine is really running metric. The metric system is more precise so if possible run in metric mode. I run in inch mode because I am old do not want to change so I accept the minor inaccuracy of using inch instead of metric.
Ok that seems to make sense; you’re working in inches.
I’m away from my machine, but I thought I recalled seeing -3mm values for my homing pull-off, which as Guy states, is .118”. Sounds like you’re good to go.
Default is 5mm… Maybe they’ve changed that. 3mm should work.
Thank’s Guy! I can switch it to MM and give that a go, but it sounds like I may be okay. I’m on Build 513 and I pulled in the latest firmware from Settings when installing the machine.
For homing, it doesn’t make any difference whether you are using Metric or Imperial.
