New user, used Shapeoko XXL Pro

Hi, new user here - I bought a used Shapeoko XXL Pro from a guy that had disassembled it before I was able to pick it up. So, pretty sure there are lots of bits missing as I’ve already found a few.
Over the next few weeks I’ll be assembling things and seeing what is missing. I didn’t find a Pro BitSetter in the stuff and I don’t think I have all the metric bolts I’ll need, but it is mostly there and in pretty good shape. I’m in Fort Collins Colorado. Glad to have joined the community - hi!
I’ve done quite a bit of reading, but always looking for tips for the new user / new assembler.

Cheers, Quin

PS - eventually I want to add a laser, so any thoughts on that would be great. It looks like there is a connector for controlling a laser on the controller board?

Welcome, and good luck.

Welcome to the forums.
Hope you have fun putting your machine together and cutting some stuff.

Here’s the assembly instructions just in case you need them.

Please let us know about any missing bits at support@carbide3c.com and we will work out how to get them to you.

There are 3rd party lasers, but while we are currently working to get an add-on laser approved for use with the SO5 Pro, there aren’t any supported option for the older models.

Lots of discussions of them here though:

Thank you for the manual link.

As I get things set up, are there any tests I can make along the way? For example, what do I have to have hooked up to just test that all the steppers are talking to the controller and talking to Carbide Motion? Or should I just concentrate on getting the machine’s frame assembled first, then worry about the electronics?

I will need to order the bitsetter, but I kinda want to have a list of stuff to order, first, I figure there will be more than a few things.

I will also be building a table / case for the machine, both for noise, dust and for (eventual) laser safety.

Cheers, Quin

For setting things up see:

It’s easier to puzzle out the electronics when you have an assembled machine to mount them on.

Thanks Will, I hadn’t seen that page before.

All Shapeoko machines use metric parts. Ace hardware carries a good selection of metric bolts/screws. So if you can determine the size go there to get replacements. You can order them online but I like to go and get what I need when I need it.
