Novice Tiling question

Did my first tiling testing today. Worked GREAT! Love it and the youtube video by Kevin is excellent. THANKS

Question: When tiling, between tiles, when each tile file is loaded, CM asks for the bit to be installed and the goes to measure it with the bitsetter. I am probably wrong, but wouldn’t the same bit be used for each tile and if so, is the a way to simply go to the start button and turn on the router and go ahead with the cut?

I’m sure it is safer to do the extra steps just to ensure one doesn’t mess something up, so just asking what the logic might be behind checking the bit each time you change between tiles?

Got to love a novice! :upside_down_face:

It’s possible to have a G-Code file for a tile with multiple tools. In which case you would want the tool changes & to measure each tool.

If you’re going to use the same tool for the whole job, you can just disable the bitsetter, then the tool change will just pause. (and maybe prompt you to insert the tool.)

Just make sure you set your Z zero with that tool before running the job.

Excellent way to do it.
Thanks

If you disable the BitSetter you need to power cycle the Shapeoko. If you initialize with the BitSetter and then uncheck it in config it messes with the internal coordinates. At least that is my experience. So initialize with the BitSetter, set your X Y and Z zero and before starting the job disable the bitsetter and power cycle. Your X Y and Z zeros are remembered but you can double check with the jog menu and the rapid positions. I use the bottom of material a lot so before you do a Z+6mm and using the bottom of material move your bit off the material or you will get a hole in it if it is more than 6MM tall.
