On/off with a remote power point?

Hi Guys,
I have an S5 Pro 4x4 and it is currently nestled in with my table saw/extractor. To turn on/off the main switch I have to walk around the back, kneel down and stretch to turn on the switch. It’s not terrible but not the best either. I can’t rearrange my setup at the moment so was wondering if it was ok to leave the switch on and turn it on and off with a remote power point. My whole workshop runs off of these and I can turn off power to everything with one button as I leave. Some electrics/electronics specify not to tun off at the wall and I don’t want to fry anything. I’m also wondering if there is a continuous use rating for the machine. How long is it ok for it to be on? I’d rather power it down but still interested to know.
Cheers, Nick

I use a small switch on my power cord connector, something like:

Everything in my shop that has electronics built in, including my VFD, is plugged into surge protector power strips. Those are turned off at the end of the day.

So this is ok then?

It should be? (I don’t like wireless stuff with unnecessary batteries).

Will, there are WiFi controlled items like switches, power outlets etc., controlled with cellphone.
I know that because my shop is down in the basement. To switch off lights I had to go down -and up again- the stairway. What I not always did, at least did not always crawl into the last corners.

My wife, she is always right she says, -reminded- me, that this would attract bugs.

Now I can control the lights from my bed, and even program when what switch or power outlet has to turn off. I love that!

Yes, I know. I am trying very hard to keep my life simple — a hard-run of a wire and mechanical switch are just easier for me to cope with, and I can use the exercise/stretching of moving around.

:innocent: :grinning: Admit to be “little” lazy. And therefore I throw a much larger shadow than you

Running everything to power boxes would be ideal. I would love to be able to walk into my shop and turn to the power box on the wall and push/pull the level and power on everything to my machine. I don’t like having the machine on all of the time because I don’t run it every day, and lately, less so because I am in the middle of a demo for a building we had on the property that came down during our last major thunderstorm/torrential down pour.

So, having my machine on all of the time would be a waste of electricity.

That’s the way my old 3xxl was setup at my old shop.

Had relays for everything. And a big router table paddle switch that controlled them.

On button powered my entire cnc setup.

Cnc controller
Vfd
Enclosure lighting.
Chiller
Vacuum (it had a switch I could turn it off with also)

Haven’t had the time in the new setup.

I am going to rebuild my table for my machine and in one section of that table will be all of the components to run my machine. The section will have a filter cover at some vents on the cabinet and a fan pulling air thru those vents and out a small port behind the fan. this will create a clean ventilation system for my controller box and power box. It will also help on keeping air flowing thru for cooling purposes and still allow me to close off the boxes from being exposed to my shop during other machine work not being ran on my S5 Pro. Plus, I can then install drawers and cabinet areas for tooling and fixtures for my machine to store out of the way and stay with my machine instead of sitting on a shelve somewhere else in my shop where I have to go hunt it down.

I don’t have the 80mm spindle and want one someday. When I do get the 80mm then I will get rid of the 65mm spindle and attachments. I had a setback, (ie, damage to my truck from a pothole that cost me $2700 worth of repairs,) on getting rid of it a while back and chose to wait on the purchase of the 80mm spindle setup, I know I will need to have room for the spindle chiller and anything else added to my setup. I want to also step away from a shop vac for my machine and hook up my dust collector to it.
