Pecking plunge issues

Need some advice,

I burned up a 1/8” Spiral Down Cut plunging holes for the cribbage boards.

I know I should have been using a up cut, which I have now.

What RPM speeds should I use, default is 18000, but I think I should dial it back.

I’m doing a plunge chip breaking (pecking) tool path.

Any suggestions?

This looks like a not bad deal - pins, plus a ‘drill mill’
