Please Help: Router not returning to Bitt Setter location over push button

Hello and Happy 2023!

I experienced something while cutting an important project.

  1. The machine always requests a ‘tool change’ before performing an operation.
  2. Normally, the machine positions over the ‘center’ of the Bit Setter push button.
  3. Eventually, the machine started to position not at the center, but ‘a bit to the right’ of the Bit Setter push button.

Questions:
a. Why is the machine not positioning over the center of the Bit Setter push button anymore?
b. Will this have an impact to the piece being machined?
c. How can this be fixed?

Thank you in advance,

My XXL typically positions near the top edge of BitSetter and rarely has it found the center. All the BitSetter does is establish a length of bit (depth of Z-axis) for use as baseline, so bit position over the button matters less that the fact it gets depressed.

The reason your BitSetter position is anybody’s guess. However to fix it simply jog to the position you want then go into the Settings and Configuration in the second tab and set the current position (where you jogged to) and you will be set for all eternity and until the end of time, or at least until it decides to move. Why they move is a mystery.

The changing of the coordinate position relative to the physical one points to something mechanical having changed. Might be a good idea to give the belts, pulley set screws, and anything else a once over. Maybe even check the tightness of the bolts holding on the homing sensors as everything is relative to that.

Hello Josh, thank you for your answer. This is my main concern…that if it moved due to a mecanical reason as you mention; it will throw all my previous work to the garbage can…

Is this something that happens with belt machines?

Only if the user doesn’t have a inspection and maintenance routine. Out of 3 SO4/SO4Pro machine I have ran, none of them needed an adjustment in a year of use. My SO3 needed adjustment about twice a year with it’s thinner belts.

I have a daily/weekly/monthly routine that I follow. But that is true for any machine I have operated from cheap 3D printers, to multi-million dollar machine centers in aerospace.
