I am very new to carbide create appr 2 weeks into cncing.
I tried making a sign with raised letters, using pocketing but the pocketing between the letters was very uneven. I used an 1/8” windmill for the whole program.
What can I do to fix it
Endmill not windmill
I’ve had something like this before… it’s a mechanical issue.
Will has a checklist to follow, but this is usually so obvious you can start with
- make sure the machine is on, but hte spindle.router is off
- Try to wiggle the endmill (be careful to not use your fingers on the sharp bits. they;re sharp
- Very likely, you will find that in one direction there is movement possible… next step is to find the source of that movement and fix it. Could be as simple as the v-wheels (on macihnes that have those) not being set right… or the belt having too much slack. But it kind of looks like an “X axis v-wheels are not tight” thing to me from the picture

Winston has a pretty good video on calibration stuff here:
It’s for the 3, but a lot should still apply.

That is a very ambitious project for your first time around. Chapeau!
