Since I’ve updated from Carbide Create V6 to V7, paths for pockets are calculated in a weird manner. A lot of unnecessary retracts and back and forth, what elongates the cutting.
Thanks a lot, this solved the issue. I assume that choosing the stepover as exactly half the cutter width leads to calculation problems with tiny leftovers that were cleaned.
I don’t know if it’s “half the cutter dia” or an even factor of the slot/pocket width & stepover. I’ve seen it in other CAM software too, where the initial pass is on center or very close, it has a hard time deciding when to engage.
