Pro modeling question

So I am brand new to try a 3d carve. Like Yesterday new. Watching videos trying to learn but one thing I don’t ever see anything about is the stock setup.

1.Typically where you enter your stock height and width and depth, mine is set mostly to .75. Does the depth factor into the modeling software?

2.If I want to create a depression and then add something on top of that… Depression of 5 mm then add something raised up in the depression? If the toolpath takes out the depression how is there anything left to add onto? I am super confused. Any help is appreciated?

  1. The dimensions of the stock should match the stock you are using, so if you always use 3/4" thick stock, then 0.75" is fine.

  2. Model the depression first, then add to it. See:
