I tried to run an engraved Christmas ornament today. The diameter is 3.5”. I did the inside with a 60degree v bit and contoured the outside with the 201. For some reason the number “2” is not being part of the toolpath. Even though I selected it all. Any idea what that could be?
I’m not a Carbide Create (CC) user, but I’d start with making sure the two “2” numbers are closed vectors. Also, make sure they do not have any overlapping lines either. Either one of those issues could prevent them from being carved.
When you look at them in the program, are the lines a different color than other ones? I believe that open and closed vectors are different colors in CC.
Maybe try to select just one of the “2” and see if it will v-carve by itself.
Either make the text bigger or use a smaller bit. When in preview you don’t see the 2 the bit is too large for the area to be cut. Make your text bigger by 1/8 inch larger to start. For your star use advanced vcarve with depth set and a 112 or 102 and your 60 degree vee or the star may cut through.
I would agree with you if he were using a straight cut bit for the "2"s, but the width shouldn’t matter, since he is using the V-bit on the "2"s as well. It has to be something else. A narrower letter or number would just mean a shallower cut with the V-bit.
Look at the horizontal strokes on the letters. They are really thin, and they are cut.
Agree w/ @Omar — if there are duplicate copies of the "2"s that can confuse the algorithm — if that’s not it, post the file here or send it in to support@carbide3d.com and we’ll do our best to work through this with you.
(note that it’s better to cut the interior before cutting the exterior — I’d also suggest adding geometry and cutting as a pocket down to at least tab depth.
