Problem with the touch probe / z-probe

Hi all,
I’ve got a small problem with the touch probe of my new Shapeoko XXL.
I tried to install it a few days ago…
It is only possible to get a connection between the touch probe and the cable with the aligator clip, when I connect the loop of the aligator clip cable to on of the four screws directly on the motherboard in the controler.
Theres no connection if I use another screw on the Shapeoko.
Maybe a problem with the grounding?
(I’ve got the version 2.4e of the controller)

Greetings from Germany
Uli

That is actually as intended — the machine itself isn’t designed with integrated grounding, and if one does that, my understanding is best practice would be to ground it directly to earth so as to not pass through the electronics.

Search terms on this are “star topology” and “magic smoke”.

thanks for your reply.
I know what you mean, but it is not even possible to connect it with the aligator clip cable via the screw at the outside of the case of the controller, like its shown on the Assembly Guide. Only with the ones on the motherboard its working.

Send a photo in to support@carbide3d.com and we’ll do our best to work this out with you.
