Proximity Switch Upgrade Problem with BitZero

I finished my upgrade of my Shapeoko XXL this afternoon. Everything seemed to work fine. Tonight I wanted to make a dust hose holder that will clamp on the Z motor and stick out so I can clamp my dust hose to it.

The project was all laid out and I was ready to cut. The homing cycle went fine and the BitSetter seemed to go fine. I manually set X and Y and tried to use the BitZero and that is where things seem to go wrong

The Z axis (hdz) starts down and when the bit touches the BitZero the red light comes on and the whole thing just stops. Usually the bit touches off and retracts. If I remove the alligator clip the hdz tries to drive further down.

The new riser board has a place for the BitZero and BitSetter along side the proximity switches. The riser board is marked F and P. I tried reversing the F & P and the BitSetter had the behavior of the BitZero. The bit went down to the BitSetter and slowly started to rise up and did not go back down.

So unless my BitZero has gone bad not sure what is going on. The BitZero turns red if I touch the alligator clip to it and when it goes down to probe the red light comes on and the BitZero should retract but it just sits there and if I remove the alligator clip the light turns green and the hdz tries to drive downward, at that point I power off.

I am going to set the Z zero with paper and try to run the job. All the homing, jogging seem to work perfectly except for the BitZero behavior

What do you think may be wrong?

Isn’t “F” for feedhold?
The BitSetter and BitZero are both probes…you have a splitter for those.

Neil you are correct. I went and put the splitter board back on and everything worked perfectly.

Dooh. I reread the install instructions and it never mentions the BitSetter/BitZero.

I thought incorrectly that the riser board was also replacing the splitter board for the BitSetter/BitZero.

I had left my controller cover off because everytime I remove the BitRunner cable I have to fiddle with it to get the BitRunner to work correctly.

Will be easy for them to take care of that in the next revision…just have two connectors on the probe line.

Guy:

This was my solution for installing the splitter board for the BitSetter/BitZero. It provides better cable management.

Splitter PCB optional mounting
