I’m starting to work with anodized aluminum and I’m wondering if the hardness of the anodized layer might be shortening the life of my cutters. I know that the anodized layer is aluminum oxide, which is very hard. I’m using single flute Zirconium coated cutters from Carbide.

My understanding is that it’s so thin a layer, it doesn’t affect things, unlike the aluminum oxide finish on flooring which is comparatively much thicker.
