Question carving

First time doing this carving stl file do you guys know why one part of the face is not smooth like tho oposita side

I suspect it’s the difference in the grain of the wood and how the tool is traveling over it rotating and lifting on one side and descending on the other β€” where it lifts the tool is pulled out of the cut resulting in the stringing, while on the descending side it is pushed deeper into the cut resulting in a cleaner cut.

Make further passes at different angles.

I would second what @WillAdams said. The grain is running parallel to the face but on one side as the bit cuts downward the grain is supported. On the opposite side the grain is unsupported when cut and it will be more course. Perhaps a finishing pass with small step over will help.

The bit is the same on both sides but the wood is different. Cutting with the grain always produces the smoothest surface but there are cases where even cutting with the grain the grain is unsupported. It is like petting a cat. You pet from head to tail and the fur lays down and the cat is happy. Pet the cat from tail to head the fur goes all over and the cat is not too happy. Wood grain is a collection of straws running in the direction of the grain. So when cutting the straws unsupported it tends to get fuzzies. You are opening up the pores of the straws and the grain is unsupported on the left side where on the right side you have the grain underneath the cut supporting the wood fibers/straws.
