Raise Z after e stop

New here. Very little CNC machinist experience but a little. Have this new Shapeoko 5 Pro handed off to me after the last guy changed jobs. Am learning and the videos helped. Today I accidentally hit the e stop while the thing was ACTUALLY WORKING how I had programmed it. yay me. anyway. of course it all stopped but I couldn’t figure out how to raise the bit from the material. I eventually just hit initialize machine and there were unhappy noises as it tried to move all 3 axes at once. It managed and hopefully I didn’t knock anything out of whack. It was a soft crash by my standards. This was the E-stop and pause button combo that comes with it. Maybe I should have hit the pause button or the e stop again? Lift the Z manually? I tried but it seemed locked and I didn’t want to break anything.

On the SO5 Pro the pause function leaves things in position — you have to actually stop the job for it to lift and yield control.

Thanks. I am sure I will get to practice this again. Greg

That’s strange. After multiple disconnects on my 4Pro xxl, leaving the bit buried in the material, I have to restart my machine, reconnect, and when it initializes the first thing it does is home the Z axis before moving X or Y.
