I have a workpiece of around 1 inch high and 4x4 square. I want to make a wine bottle coaster but with raised lettering on the inside bottom. I have my 2 vectors, the inner wall (a square), and some text.
I am confused as to how to create the toolpaths.
I tried doing a pocket of the inner square go depth 9/16 then an advanced vcarve with 9/16 start and 10/16 end. But it makes a mess of the corners - it seems that the V-bit is going too near the inner wall.
Ah, so the black shape is what you are trying to get (section view), and the magenta shape is the tool…
The depth of your V-carve is 3mm, but the radius of your tool is 6.35 mm.
You can’t generate that feature (the chamfer around the outside edge) with those tools.
As I am using Advanced Vcarve, I thought it would use the end bit to clear around the letters, and the v-bit to do the detailed work. It doesn’t actually need to send the v-bit to the side.
To extend on this, it will work if you inset things so that they are rounded at the top (or use the Fillet tool to do this) and then offset around the letters as necessary to allow the motion necessary for the Advanced V carving tool to plunge around the sharp points.
