Ramping with White Oak

Is the 20° ramp that I see a safe angle for cutting into White Oak?
My maximum cut depth is about 0.4". I’m using 1/4", 1/8" and 1/16" end mills.

Any sort of angled cut is better than the default plunge — it might be that different angles are better for different grain orientations — I’d suggest making some test cuts in some scrap.

A lot of this depends on the cutter geometry. My 1/4" O-Flute will ramp 12°. These 1/4" & 1/2" mills are center cutting, so any angle will work. Although I don’t usually go over 20° in wood, or 2° in Aluminum.
The 1/2" router bit doesn’t cut in the center, so from the trailing edge of one flute to the other is about 10°.
