Reading one toolpath?

newbie here, just learning my way around. the problem… I set up to do a carve of some koi fish from the library… I set different tool path for different bits and depths. the simulation looks fantastic, but when i put it into motion it does the whole thing as one toolpath. usually, it stops and promps me to change bits and start the next toolpath, but for some reason it just running the whole thing. I did just download the 3d. but im not using any of those extra options anyway, so i dont think thats it… im sure its something stupid but i retraced my steps twice and cant see whats wrong…

Please post the .c2d file, step-by-step notes on how you are securing your stock and setting zero relative to it and managing all tool changes, and a photo showing an attempt at cutting still clampled in place on the machine.

the pic is second attempt that i stopped because i could see the same thing happening…
could it be a mistake in the way i put new bits in the tool library…

fish.c2d (336 KB)

Seems a reasonable match:

If it isn’t, then the problem is probably how you set zero relative to the surface of the stock.

well for sure its not right. there should be 3 differend cutteres… a 60 degree a 20 degree and a 15 degree… its cutting the whole thing with the 60 without stopping between tool paths… I have a bitsetter and its not the zero, its after the first toolpath (the deepest one) it just keeps going as one toolpath. Im sorry im not explaining it well. theres prob. a better way to articulate what is happening, but im now to it all. this is just learning purposes anyway. i got some new bits and i thing maybe i didnt put the geomotry in right or something and carbide thinks it can do it with the one bit…

If you want tool changes you will need:

  • to define each tool using a different number
  • to write out the G-code using a post-processor which supports tool changes
  • to run the file on a machine with a BitSetter

thank you,
it was very kind of you to help so quickly…
I dont have the tools defined correctly. i had a feeling it was something like that…

again…
thank you…
