Ready to scrap this machine

I have had this Shapeoko Pro XXL for 8 months. Router burned up in 30 days, Y axis bearing plate in 2 months. Limit switches in 4 months( new ones didn’t fix problem) And now the latest problem. The Y axis doesn’t seem to want to move properly. And the problem is intermittent. I can go all day without it doing this and then there are days where I can get it to function properly at all. Today is one of those days. The machine goes through the initialization movements without any issues at all. Then I go to rapid movement down to front left and the left side just starts grinding and not moving. Stepper motor is moving just find. Belt is tight. Although I do have to retighten the belt multiple times a day. Can someone help me before I put this thing in the trash??

I have a video of it’s latest hiccup

I don’t see any support ticket from your email since mid-2021. Unless you’re using a different email now, and I don’t see an open thread, contact support and let them know you’d like to hop on a video chat to work through the problem. They’d be happy to help.

That should be a red flag right there! I tightened my belts several months ago and, except for a quick snap to make sure they’re tight, I haven’t touched them. So that points to either a mechanical issue or an assembly issue. I have a 3XXL so maybe the Pro is different, but that would still concern me!

On 2 SOPro’s and one SO4 I run, I also do not have to adjust belts more than a couple of times a year when the weather changes.

It is easy to over tighten the belts and when you do you’ll see a slightly narrower spot along the top of the belt. It can also lead to broken and or missing teeth along the bottom of the belt causing missed steps.

I think you’d bend a motor shaft before you stretched the 15mm belts to that point.
