Two capacitors have fallen off my Shapeoko 3 motion PCB. Can I replace these with any 100 uF 35V capacitors? Also any tips for soldering would be appreciated.
Short answer, yes. Long answer…without a high temp soldering iron it will be difficult because we use 2 oz copper, and it’s tricky to get the iron in the tiny SMT leads of that style capacitor. Shoot us en email at support and we’ll swap your board for another one (tell the team Jorge sent you).
The pads are still there, so that tells me it was a poor solder job on the original cap, rather than abuse. That style of cap was a regular problem where I worked, it really needs some rtv silicone dabs to hold the cap to the board after soldering.
Where were you when I replaced my capacitors @Jorge ![]()
I’m kidding of course, not about the capacitors, you folks are awesome!
Yes those caps are a flight risk, I’ve had a couple of them fall off a PC MB, it was only 3 months old too.
