Request for moving nodes via keyboard

I have a complex shape that just needs to have bottom height vertically extended. When I try to select the bottom edge nodes and move them, there is no way to move them straight down by a Y distance. Even if I turn on snapping, the nodes do not snap to the grid. At this point it is pretty limiting to edit my design in this software. If there is a better solution please do let me know.

Are you not able to zoom out more to get space to drag the nodes down?

if you need to move or adding something at a specific distance away from a current node its usually easiest to draw a guide polygon. To add something 3.5mm from a corner, I will add a 3.5mm square, place it at the node of the current shape, then I have something for the next item to snap to.

Alternatively I also adjust my grid to to the size I’m needing, move the entire shape to snap to it at the node I’m working with, then there is a grid point exactly where I need it for snapping.

I can drag the nodes downward but i need them to be perfectly aligned. How can i do this if snap is not working correctly and the hotkeys dont work?

Thanks for the idea of adding shapes to line up to. Unfortunately grid size doesn’t work in this case because when in node edit mode, node snapping doesn’t perform as expected.

Can you post your file?

Thanks for helping me but i’ve spent hours on this file and plan to sell it. I really don’t want to post it publicly. This is really easy to see. Just make any file → make a shape → go to edit node → select some nodes → hit an arrow key on the keyboard. The nodes don’t move.

To see snapping issues with nodes → make a box that is not currently snapped over a perfect grid → go into the node edit mode and select multiple nodes and try grabbing them to snap in to a corner. It actually makes sense that they cannot snap because it appears that the program does’t understand the current node being dragged when multiple nodes are selected. So of course it doesnt know where to snap to. This is all fine if I can just use hot keys to move groups of nodes around on an axis.

Ok I guess this is a dead topic. This is kinda why I was asking in another thread to have a proper feature request system for Carbide’s softwares. I’ve noticed everytime I point out a bug or shortcoming of the software, the thread sorta gets misdirected and not much comes of it. There is no confirmation of the item being a bug or a planned feature or just not going to do it. I really want to be a part of the carbide eco system, so I come here to report issues as a new user but honestly im starting to get the feeling that isn’t what you guys want.

There is a specific category for feature requests.

You may try that:

From past experience it seems the Carbide team is pretty good at taking comments from the community and support emails to weigh in on the bug/enh priorities. @robgrz has been on this chain and now knows about it directly.

I was thinking more about your case and while I’m not exactly sure what you were trying to do, I would probably try to solve it by building new shapes and then using booleans to add/subtract them to the big shape. This gets the placement of the nodes exactly where you want them, after it may require some node editing to get the transitions correct. Moving individual nodes around is always a tricky situation (for me).

Hmmm… node/grid snapping and node placement is one of the features I like in CC. For me it has always worked precisely and has made creating a project much faster.
I can create an object, add a node, turn on smoothing, create a curve full of nodes, drag and select all curve nodes, grab the node that is on the grid and drag all nodes anywhere I want and the node I grab always snaps onto the grid.
I set the grid to represent the smallest size I will be working with to start.
