Is there a way to change the Z zero location? I have a job that flattens a piece of material. After running the job I noticed that I should take another .02mm off of the material. I could change the job to make more passes. I could change the cut depth per pass. What I would like to do is somehow either before or after starting the job change the Z zero 1mm more. I would rather not have to go thru the whole zero process each time.
Yes, if you go into the Jog menu, then Zero menu, you can manually type into the Z position and hit enter to send it to the machine. If current position was 32.45mm for example, you would override that to 33.45mm, making the machine think it was 1mm higher than reality. It would then plunge 1mm deeper than the previous passes.
I think I understand. Once I start the job. I can’t get to the jog screen. How does one get the router to position to the start point without starting the job? I guess I could MDI first few commands up to the point that it positions the router to the zero point.
I assumed you were doing this between running jobs (even the same job file). You don’t have to physically jog/be at the zero point, you are just nudging the offset so the machine performs the correction you want.
So, in this example you ran your surfacing operation and noticed needs to go a little deeper. Before starting again, perform the steps I mentioned, then go back to the run screen and start the job. Do not adjust X/Y or use BitZero, etc. I don’t think there is any issue using BitSetter with that workflow since you’re just adjusting the work coordinates and not the machine coordinates, but worth testing on a scrap piece.
Thanks. I’ll try it in the morning.
Not sure it worked. Seemed to cut deeper than I expected. I did not know that in the jog rapid position that the current XY was the same as where the job would start. So that is how to get the router positioned to the job start location without starting the job. Will continue to work. Also looking for a method to put the dust boot back on after zeroing out the router. With some bits the router needs to be moved up to allow the dust boot to be put in place.
What value did you start with for Z and what value did you input? You mentioned lowering by both 0.02mm and 1mm, so I gave the example using 1mm. If you truly needed to adjust it by the smaller amount then you have to add that into your existing Z reading.
