Is Carbide ever going to give its users rotary capabilities. Why doesn’t CARBIDE listen to its users and pursue this. Most other brands support it.
I have seen this request several times. The current controllers cannot handle 4 axis so a new controller would need to be produced. It would be a handy feature but a friend bought a laser that has the rotary feature. A laser has some features a CNC does not but does not have some features a CNC does have. Having both would take space and money but if you want a rotary axis then look at lasers. Maybe someday C3D will have a rotary but likely not anytime soon. Who knows what is in the works.
A few people have done it. You can swap out the Y axis for an A rotary axis, or swap X for B.
You would have to then calibrate the rotary axis for steps per degree (or minute, second), and then create a post that would also convert Y motion to A rotary motion. (a little 3D matrix math).
As for the software, it’s free/cheap CAD/CAM software and has a development team of <1. And he’s dividing his development time between CC & CM (and running the company).
While they are limited, they are also pretty robust. You can do a lot if you understand the rules, and aren’t afraid to break them ![]()
