Yesterday I needed to surface 2 pine boards - 17 x 31. I ran the first one with no issue, set up the second, flipped the switch on the Carbide Router and …nothing. Checked the outlet, the switch on the router and my outlet switch and still nothing. I finally gave it a kick start with a scrap of wood and it started. So I ran my second board but noticed at the end it sounded like it was bogging down and losing speed. It was only a .5mm DOC at 100ipm so it wasn’t a lot of work. When the cut finished I figured my brushes were worn so I took the out and saw that one was nice and shiny where it contacts the commutator but the other was flat black and looked sooty. I put new brushes in and it spun up and sounded normal, but I’m wondering - is this a sign my router is about to croak or does it sound like it was just the brushes? The brushes were still about 1/4" - 3/8" or so long.
Should be just the brushes — the other possible issue is the bearings, but them going out wouldn’t’ve been improved by changing the brushes. If you continue to have difficulties please contact us at support@carbide3d.com
