Router Bit Maintenance

I current am using an ultrasonic cleaner to clean my bits after a couple of uses. Using a basic ultrasonic cleaning solution that is heated to 76˚C and the bits are cleaned in the solution for 19 minutes. Everything comes out like new.
I also use a 600 grit diamond flat hone with a little oil that works good on the bits that have a flat face.
What I am looking for though is if other people know of tools that would sharpen the bits that don’t have a flat face, something like a spiral bit. I’m only using the end of the bit for the most part so a set of files would probably work, but don’t know what to get. Any ideas?

When I mentioned a tool sharpening jig on team chat, it was pointed out that the tooling is ground on specialty machines which cost upwards of half-a-million dollars.

Given the scrap value of carbide these days, just keep it until you have enough to recycle? (excepting one’s need for short precision rods for hinges and small hand tools and so forth…)

The sharpening jig in question looked potentially useful for a lot of other things though:

You could get a diamond stone and run the edge (Profile) over the stone a few strokes. However as @WillAdams said the cost of a bit over the hassle and possible ruining an already ruined bit is a wash or maybe a little bit cheaper to buy a new one. Cleaning them is a very good idea. Carbide lasts a long long time depending on what you are cutting. Flat profiles like 90/60 vee bits are easier to run their profile (flat side) over a diamond stone around 1200 grit. You only need a few strokes. Do not try to run the stone over the shorter profile only the flat on the backside of the cutting edge. It would be very easy to round over the edge and that would make a very poor cutting tool.
