Router Differences

What is the difference between the Carbide Compact Router and the Carbide Compact ER-11 Router.

The collets.

The Carbide Compact Router uses the same collets as the Makita RT0701/0700. The ER-11 uses that collet system.

You want an ER-11 if you already have a spindle or need to use tooling w/ arbitrary shaft diameters, or if you would benefit from a collet system which will draw the collet and tool out.

For me, I find the ER-11 collet more accurate. With the Makita collet system I was seeing up to .007 TIR(total indicated runout). It made it a challenge making mating parts. With the ER-11 I am experiencing <.001TIR. It is a smaller version of the collets used by metal working CNC machines. I also think it has greater holding power.
