How many of you run the router for a warmup period prior to starting a job?
Never thought of it. Just make sure it has gas and the choke is off.
I’ve never thought about this before but, using basic principles, the router should have more power when it’s cold. As wires warm the resistance increases. Assuming the voltage remains constant, this means the current through the wires will decrease (I = V/R). This results in less power (P = IV). So the only “warm-up” time that would make sense to me is about a second or two to moderate the initial surge of current.
I don’t consider the bearing tolerances in a router to warrant a warmup period. A VFD Spindle on the other hand, I would.
If you plan to run sub 20k, naw, don’t worry about it. If you are ripping at 30k, then consider a warmup. I tend to flick them on at 10k for a few minutes, especially for the tighter ones.
I agree here. When I worked at 8020 after a vacation time off, we had to come in and run them a bit prior to starting. Running 24/7 time this was not needed.
I wasn’t sure with the router since there is a spindle on button in the Jog screen.
