I made this rune set and box for my girlfriend. The box is Wenge and Cherry and the runes are Cocobolo and Cherry. Made entirely on the Shapeoko Pro 5 2x2, and lots of sanding.

That is a very nice box. I have used wenge once and never again. I got more splinters from the wenge than any other wood I have ever worked with.
What is symbolism for the runes to your girl friend?
I’m really not sure. She asked me to make her a rune set, so here we are. The Wenge is really hard wood, and I had to up my bits from 1/4" to 3/8" to get the cutting time down without breaking bits.

I agree about the hardware. It makes the box stand out, looking like an old “treasure” by its self.
