Screen recording applications

While not really a CNC post, I know we’ve got a lot of IT folks in here, and one of them might have a recommendation.

We’re looking for a largely automated screen recording app that we can use to collect user feedback. For instance, if someone is not getting what they want from Create, we’d like to be able to send them a link and have them duplicate their process without any help, so we can see how they go wrong.

Obviously, this will frequently be used with people that are a little less computer literate so it needs to be almost automatic.

Does anyone have a recommendation?

I have used Camtasia from TechSmith. It is very good, but you have to have a license.

A command/gesture recording session/log would work if you allow it in the applications.
That would be the most efficient and would provide cross platform availability.

There is a review in PC Magazine for screen capture applications. SnagI/t is at the top of the list.
This approach has the potential for huge MP4 files on long runs.

I use a program called iSpring Cam. It’s free and couldn’t be easier or quicker It’s no longer developed, but the installer is out there (I have one saved just in case). It’s Windows only. Exports to .wmv.
There’s also a Chrome extension called screencastify, I think… I’m on a phone now trying to remember this.
Can you use QuickTime on a Mac?

Zoom / Teams / Skype etc… have recording capability. The person could hold a meeting by themself, share their screen & record it. This would also get the dialog.
Or a support person could attend the meeting as well & get it first hand.

This is very simplistic and does not record video but does record clicks keystrokes and screenshots. The steps recorder built into windows has helped me a lot over the years.

I would also add to what @rnicolson said that for the Mac folks that Quicktime is included on all Macs and does screen recording. In both cases, you would know they already have the app on their systems.
