Sea Turtle - 3D carve

I appreciate you keeping us informed of your progress, I have learned several things following your project.

For mold making shenanigans, a roll of 18” wide cling wrap is great to have around. Saves you having to tape everything and there are no cracks for expanding foams to seep through. Plus it has a bit of stretch so you can get some pretty high detail if that’s relevant for your application.

The project is inspiring, I think I’ll try cutting a (smaller) turtle myself this week :slightly_smiling_face:

Cling wrap ? I had not thought of that.

No chemical reaction with the foam ? That’s out of my pay grade.

It’s made of polyethylene these days which is fairly inert.
I’ve never had a problem with reactions but it’s always worth testing a piece with your preferred foam :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s also above my pay grade…so I always have a roll stolen from the wife’s baking supplies. Not sure if she’s ever noticed the Saran Wrap box that lives in my shop above the nitrile gloves :yum:

where do I look to learn doing 3d full objects with pro, top and bottom?
mahalo for your time

Carbide Create only does 2.5D modeling, but will import 3D STLs.

To make 3D designs in the round you would need a 3D CAD program, list at:

For folks running Mac OS:

Welcome to the forum!

There is an entire series of learning videos that C3D provides that would really help you work thru for double sided projects.

The sea turtle model 3d model was downloaded from SketchFab. I used Blender to convert it to STL (binary) format. I scaled the model once inside the design software.
