Securing Materials down to waste board

I was working on a project and I couldn’t get the wood secured to the base with VHB Tape, also at the lowest extent if the Z axis the tip of the bit is a good 2 inches from top of the Waste board. Any ideas of other ways I could secure Materials down to the waste board, and raise it up?

I put another piece of 3/4" MDF on mine to use as a replaceable spoilboard. I put in screw inserts for hold downs also. Some have use t-track and MDF added onto the top of the spoilboard. Either way you have a replaceable spoilboard that you wont mind cutting into and can easily resurface when scared up too much.
