Shapeoko 3 and VFD

Hi All,
Thinking about adding Carbide’s VFD to my Shapeoko 3. Carbide motion 640, HDZ, board 2.4e.
Any concerns and others with VFD, are you happy ?

If you take the leap, make sure everything is powered off before connecting the VFD to the control board…

Hey, learn from my mistake

Today, I connected the control cable from my S3 to my new VFD while the S3 was powered on. The VFD was unplugged. I now own a very large, very expensive brick. Hopefully the VFD survived, I obviously can’t test it now. Yes, I know I shouldn’t have done that. Still, I find it massively disappointing that connecting a control cable while the machine is on is enough to kill the controller.

I run the C3D VFD on a standard size SO3 with an HDZ. Its a great setup. If you’re currently using the Sweepy 2.0 with the router you’ll want the Deep Sweep to go along with the extended nose on that spindle.
