So tonight while doing a threaded wasteboard my machine started drilling higher in higher while going left to right. The bed is level, the stock was MDF and it is off by .09 in every 2 inches moving backwards.
Could be one of the following:
- gantry out of level? (that’s an awful slope for that though)
- lost steps on Z-axis? Check the machine mechanically: https://wiki.shapeoko.com/index.php/FAQ#Mechanical
Could your bit be slipping in the collet?

Not that I can tell, you’d think the bit broke with how little is cut.
Elaborating on @WillAdams’s hint, you might want to check the setscrew on your Z-axis pulley, it sounds very much like the Z pulley is slipping on the Z motor shaft.
(if you have a standard Z, that is. If you have a Z-plus or HDZ, ignore this comment)
