Hi all!
I have a Shapeoko 3 that I’ve been steadily upgrading since I bought it over a decade ago. I have a Z-plus, a Bitsetter, a C3D spindle, etc. The machine is plenty accurate for my wood working and gets tons of use and time.
When I purchased my spindle I also purchased a new controller since that was required. Since the Shapeoko3 is over a decade old understandably parts are a bit thin on the ground. The great folks at C3D finally managed to find me a controller (thank you!) but it’s been a serious pain in the butt with static problems, disconnects, and various weirdnesses. Compared to my original board this run seems super sensitive. Now one of the Y axis stepper drivers is completely borked - my thermal camera shows zero heat coming from the driver chip.
Sigh . . .
The folks at C3D have been awesome btw. They have gone out of their way to support this ancient system. So . . . I’m trying to get a more up to date controller but I’d like to stay within the C3D family. I have a few questions before I order another controller though.
Q1) If I sourced my own Molex connectors and rewired everything could I use a Shapeoko4 controller on a Shapeoko3? I have the tools to properly crimp Molex pins.
Q2) Would it work with my present Bitsetter, BitZero, C3D 65mm spindle, inductive endstops, etc?
Q3) Does anyone have the pinouts for the S# and S4 boards so I can do the rewiring?
I think I’d probably need to drop the S3 grbl setup info into the S4 controller . . . but that’s pretty straighforward.
