I have a S4 and the Y2 stepper appears to be moving about half the speed of the Y1 stepper. I have swapped the steppers on the controller board, and verified that the problem is not a cable connection. Is there any reason that the board would be driving one of the y axis steppers slower, or is it defective and missing steps?
Just for clarification, when you swapped the motors plugged into Y1 and Y2, did the same motor appear to operate at half speed? Or did they swap behaviors?
I believe this is one of the possible failure modes for the electronics/stepper drivers on the controller.
Please check your controller to see if an errant metal chip is causing a short which is the cause of this — if cleaning off the controller and checking all the wiring doesn’t reveal an obvious cause you’ll probably need a new controller — if under warranty check in with support and we’ll work out how to handle this.
Stupid thought…but maybe resend the configuration? It sounds like the kind of weird problem I just had - and similar advice for how to troubleshoot it. Will, you were spot-on in that call for me - maybe it will work here?
It sounds like a wiring or signal mismatch—try checking Y2 connections at the controller and make sure both motors have the same steps per mm. Swapping Y1 and Y2 plugs is a quick way to see if the issue is with the motor or the controller side.
