Shapeoko 5.1 Pro 4x2 how close to back wall

Hello to everyone,

Curious how close can the CNC be mounted to the back wall. I haven’t purchased yet, so of course can’t measure it. I’m looking for direction as to what if anything overhangs the back of the rails. From what I have found is the foot print is 60" x 35".

Bench space side to side is no problem, with plenty of room for anything that may overhang.

The bench top has backsplash that is 3" high. The measurement from the backsplash to the front edge is 35". Above the backsplash is 36" from the back wall to the front edge of the bench top.

My shop is small so careful planning is a must. Any advice is greatly appreciated…Thanks!

I have the 4x4 and the biggest thing hanging off the back is the wiring harness.

The depth footprint is almost 38" on mine with some buffer for wire bundles that exit the back left and right Y rails.
It depends how you plan to use it. Yes it’s a quote benchtop CNC. It’s also sold with a leg kit to setup free standing. If you want to run larger jobs, like a 2x4 sheet size, its much easier to be able to walk around the back of the machine to clamp at the back edge. If that’s not an option, depending how tall or long your arms are you may need a small step to lean over the machine to clamp at the back from the front. Extra space at front of the bench makes this worse. For only small jobs in the middle of the spoilboard it might not be an issue. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the reply, The 38" seems more realistic than simply stating foot print size. CC stating foot print size sent my small brain down not so a correct path, not blaming Carbide Create, things are what they are. I just need to know.

I’m probably going to add additional support at the front edge to allow more needed space between back wall and CNC machine. I’m thinking at least 4" more.
