I have a 3XL that I purchased used and it has worked out great for my needs. The only issue I have is sometimes I need to reset the grbl code to keep it accurate.
I am thinking about upgrading to a 5 and am interested if the ball screws eliminate the need to reset something to keep it accurate?
I’m new to CNC but I haven’t seen documentation on the need to reset anything like you have to maintain accuracy as you described. Belts have their own set of rules/maintenance for operation as I have learned on this forum.
I don’t think you would be disappointed at all with the 5 Pro upgrade. It’s my first CNC and I’m not at all disappointed!!
I went from a 3xxl with an hdz and 80mm spindle. Spindle and mount were over 15 lbs.
Be wheels had to be adjusted weekly and belts got replaced monthly. The steel belts had less deflection but didn’t last as long. They would break 5-6 weeks in running 60 hours a week.
My 5 4x4 is a year and a half old also with 2.2kw spindle and grbl Speeds increased. Never have to adjust anything. I grease the bearing blocks every month and keep working. I’m cutting at 275 ipm at 1/2” doc in tigerply edge every day.
What used to take me a 10 hour day to cut I now do in 2 hours with a better edge finish. I used to do 180ipm at 1/4” doc but would have to d finishing passes to get a good edge finish.
You will not regret the 5k don’t know how I fought with the belts for so long. I actually planned on buying 2 5pro 4x4 but haven’t had the need yet. I’m getting there though. My just due a 4x2 For the second.
