Shapeoko 5 and VFD in 220v Region

Good Evening!

I recently purchased the S5P along with the VFD spindle kit. I’m based out in the UK and the voltages out here (as with most of the world) is 220-240v 50Hz.

Has anyone setup and ran the VFD spindle outside of the US using a suitable 110v transformer ? Has anyone come across any issues using 2 different voltages - one for controller (can apparently be ran at 220v) and the VFD?

Information is lacking on the VFD and I don’t want to start cooking control boards and components should there be an issue.

Many thanks

Dani

The control board power supply is auto switching between 220 and 110V The control board does not actually run on 220/110 but converts to logic signals to power the board so you are good there. I do not know the internals of the controller but likely makes 12vdc and 5vdc inside the controller.

I would write an email to support@carbide3d.com for guidance about the vfd.

Might be worth a quick read at the end of this thread
