Shapeoko 5 Pro drives to front end but keeps driving

I just ran into an issue with my new 5 Pro. If initialized the Y axis cross beam would drive to the front of the carriage but not stop. I would have to abort with the kill switch or in Carbide Motion. After restarting the system and trying again the same thing would occur. I noticed that when manually pushing the cross beam backward by hand away from the front end stops the beam skewed a bit. After removing the cross beam end caps and inspecting the cross beam mounting bolt tightness I found that they were fine. What I did find was the 4 bolts that hold the beam support to the bearing blocks were loose. This allowed the beam to skew when going to the home position or out of the home position and confused the controller apparently so the end limit switches didn’t all trigger when they should have. Tightening the two bolts on each side located just behind the cross beam resolved the issue. By the way. These bolts would be located in front of the cross beam unless you perform the mod to move the beam forward so that the spindle hanges over the front of the table.

If it’s moving forward, it sounds like you may have entered in the wrong machine in the setup wizard. The homing switches are on the rear of the machine, so it should move rearward. Moving forward wouldn’t trigger the switches to stop the movement. I believe you may have entered in “Shapeoko Pro” which is a belt driven machine. Try running the setup wizard again and make sure you enter “Shapeoko 5 Pro”.

Thanks for the reply. In my case and it my not be typical but the machine was set up properly and was operating as designed until the cross beam bolts loosened and the beam skewed coming out of the home position. At that point it drove to the forward end of travel and tried to drive further. After finding the loose bolts, realigning the cross beam, shutting down and starting up again I haven’t had an issue since. I’m tempted to use blue lock tight on those specific bolts.
