I am using 1/2 inch stock to cut 4 coasters. I designed the file in Carbide Create (attached). When I use Carbide motion to cut, the cut starts above the stock. I am new to CNC. Any help is appreciated.

How are you setting zero relative to the stock?
See:
https://carbide3d.com/hub/courses/running-shapeoko/movements-zeroing/
Note that that needs to match how the origin is set in your file:

Post a photo showing the machine at the zero position, and a screengrab showing what Carbide Motion shows when the machine is there.
I am Having the same issue occasionally. What I found was I stopped the run and re loaded the file and it worked
Fine.
Thanks Jon. It worked after stopping and running again. Not sure if it’s a bug.
I have had a similar experience. I have a 0.76” mdf ‘fixture’ board clamped to my table and the part (also 0.76” mdf) to be cut located to xy with an inset peg and 2-way tape to hold it. This worked great but then when I switched to birch plywood it looks likes the cutter is doing the work in the plus Z. in other words instead of cutting 0.039” deep it’s cutting the air 0.039” above the wood. I have checked the physical dimensions multiple times in multiples areas I have changed the stock dim in the cad program. I have reinitialized the machine. Reinstalled bitsetter. I am at a loss. still searching here for others that have experienced this.
