I have a Pro 5 with a VFD router. When using carbide create, do i use the standard settings or the HDM settings to run my machine. There is a big difference in the two. I run almost exclusively 1/8" brass cutouts.
At this time, I would recommend using the Shapeoko settings — once you are confident of the machine and your operating it, you can work up towards the HDM settings (note that the HDM is even more rigid than the SO5 Pro, and has a spindle even more powerful than the VFD spindle).
Hopefully @wmoy or someone with more experience w/ an SO5 Pro will chime in here.
I have both the HDM (1.5kw/120V version) and a S5pro with the C3D VFD Spindle. ![]()
I usually start with the default HDM settings on the S5Pro as they are conservative. My HDM settings are way more aggressive than the defaults.
But I will lower the depth of cut to lower the load.
