Shapeoko Pro - Griding - Request Guidance

Hey All, long time user but facing a problem I’ve not experienced. My cnc started grinding across the X-axis especially after initiallizing and going to change tools. I’ve shot a video but not sure how to upload it here. Initially thought it was dirty or worn belts so I bought new belts and installed them. That worked for a couple hours thyen started again. I’m thinking it might be going out of alignment but not sure why that would be. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

V/R, Doc

When’s the last time you lubricated your linear bearings?

Here is the video

Did that this week. Linear and Z bearings.

The video is private and can’t be viewed by others.

Photos of your X-axis, linear rails, and linear blocks?

Sorry try this one:

Is your X Axis stepper motor drive gear secure?

Sounds like bearings or drive gear/pullys are loose.

Check your X-axis motor connectors in the wiring harness - if you jog the axis while fiddling with the connector a bit you may find it causes the stuttering/grinding. If the connector is not making a solid connection then grinding/stutters/stalls are often the result as the motor gets mixed signals. I recently replaced the X & Z-axis motor connectors on my ProXXL with aviation type connectors after my Z-axis started acting up again for the 2nd or 3rd time.

Jeffish, How would I test this?

Have a look at the stepper motor drive gear and see if both set screws are there and tight on the flats of the drive shaft. If you move the Z plate by hand in either X axis direction you can watch the gear as well to see if its skipping on the shaft or belt.
