What would be a good size for the base to go under a Shapeoko 5 Pro 4x4 machine. I’m thinking 60" deep and 72" wide and about 28" high.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Douglas
Wider can work out well — affords a place for the other things one needs:
- computer
- collets and nuts and wrenches
- workholding and associated tools
- areas to prep stock for cutting and post-process cut parts
Or, one can have a table sized just for the machine and separate areas.
Height depends on one’s own height and what sort of stock, and how much access on has to the back/sides of the machine.
I made my table for the SO5 4x4 at 72" x 72", because I plan to someday build a cover for it, and wanted the extra space for whatever stock I used to build it, and still have room for cleaning. It’s a beast of a table though. I basically made a torsion box out of 2x4s and plywood, with 6x6 legs and a shelf underneath. It doesn’t come apart, and weighs about 500lbs. Doesn’t move at all when working, and barely moves when trying to roll it around.
With the machine on top, the working surface sits at 36", since I’m tall and wanted all my counters/machines to be an easy back height. Quite often I’m using tools on the project while it’s clamped to the table, so bending over for long periods would get tiring.
