A couple of years ago there was a discussion cutting a sliding dovetail. I need to do some for a bench in 2" cherry. The dovetail holds the foot the sloped legs go into so I don’t have to hold a 6 foot-2" thick bench to drill the angled and tapered holes.
You can see what I plan to do in the Anarchrist’s Design Book, where they cut it by hand
With all the new improvements, any new recommendations on this?
It should work to cut the negative portion of the dovetail using a Keyhole toolpath — then it should be a matter of cutting the positive form using geometry which describes the area around that.
Note however that Carbide Create cannot model undercuts, so one will have to take the cuts on a bit of faith.
