I’m having an issue where in my parallel finishing passes are getting grooves cut into my angled an vertical surfaces, and it seems that the X axis doesn’t return to quite the same spot when reversing directions. The surface in the image below was first cut with a waterline pass (I’m using meshcam), so no change in X in that one. The X position is the same in the g-code (-449.060 at the bottom of that surface and -449.064 at the top) in both directions, so it seems there is some play in the X direction. What can be causing this?
There have been reports that the bearing blocks on the ends of the ball screws have come loose. Check the bolts and see if your bearings are tight.
That seems like it might be some slop, I’d check all structual parts, mounting bolts for the mount, the ball nut mounts, etc. If you grab the bottom of the spindle by hand and force it back and forth in that axis do you feel any play?
Imagine it shifts half a mm, going the direction you indicated it would lag behind a hair and cause grooves like that when it dropped down to continue the lower path. Is the inner diameter on the non grooved part also a hair undersized?
