Hello guys, I have been using my Shapeoko 4 XXL for some months now and I was wondering if I should be doing something in order to avoid/repair this little dents and scratches on my rails.
This bugs me a little bit since the right Y rail is the only one that doesn’t have any scratches and this makes me wonder if I’m doing something wrong with the left Y rail and the X rail. Thank you very much
As far as avoiding it goes, use Sweepy to keep chips to a minimum and just wipe off the rail after a job. That said, those marks//nicks aren’t going to matter so I wouldn’t worry about it.
Some of this looks like the v-wheel has rubbed off on the rail. I use the fine 3m (white) finishing pads. This is like the scotchbrite pads on the back of sponges. It cleans off any buggers and/or sawdust that gets stuck on the rails. I use a stiff nylon brush to clean my v-wheels and keep them clean. I use dust collection but still get some saw dust on the rails. Unless there is a real dip on the rail it will not affect the performance. The v-wheels only run on the v shaped part of the rail and then only on the sides of the v shaped rail. I dont think the v-wheel center even touches the rail, at least not on my S03 XXL.
