I am trying to cutout these rectangles using the pocket toolpath. They are to be centered in the workpiece. But everytime I make the cut they are not centered. Worse, they are off centered in opposite directions. Everything else about the cut is accurate. Depth, dimensions all good., just not centered. Any ideas?
Is your machine mechanically sound?
How are you positioning and securing your stock?
For work like this, I like to machine a pocket w/ dogbanes which matches the size of the stock, then secure the stock in that pocket, then adjust Z zero and cut.
Machine is sound. All other files cut where they are supposed to.
I have remade this file several times. Two boxes, single box. Vertical layout, horizontal. All configurations result in off center cuts. The cut outs are 3.25” wide. The material is 7” wide. There should be 1 7/8” of material in each side. There’s 1.75” on one side and 2” on the other.
Are you using material that is already cut to the outer dimensions?
Honestly unless It’s small enough to put calipers on, I just use center of stock for XY. Then I find the center of the material using the diagonals. Seems to be the best way since nothing ever seems to be the actual size is supposed to be. I usually just use oversize stock and cut the periphery to avoid the issue all together.
I’ve thought of that, since there are 2 rectangles needing cut out I can’t do that because even if I cut one rectangle and then spin it to cut the other, they’re off center in opposite directions. My material is the exact dimensions I inputted.
How are you aligning the material in the machine? Do you have a fence?
