I myself have used or should I say tried to use several of the free programs. Found that in my opinion Carbide Create is the simplest and easiest as a beginner. Looking forward to the day when I consider myself good enough to go with the premium version. Thanks Carbide for keeping my machine out of the dumpster!!
Hi Leo,
I’ve been using TurboCad since I got my first CNC in 2005. But… that’s not going to help you create g-code to run your machine.
I highly recommend Vectric! Very intuitive! You can draw, and create g-code with it, and it’s not expensive at all. They have excellent tutorials. I think you can see them without even buying the software. They have several versions so you can pick which one works best for you.
Good luck!
Steve
I’ve worked as a graphic designer for a decade or two. Rather than wrestle with ‘CC’ to get the precise shapes I want, I draw them in Adobe Illustrator, which I can do in my sleep, and then export them as SVG’s or similar formats and use those images to create the needed toolpaths. Create is getting better all the time, so I can sometimes get what I need without the A.I. step.
