I just bought a 4" overall length, 2" cutting length, 1/4" endmill. Does anyone have recommended speeds & feeds (and depth/pass) for this bit in maple and walnut? Thanks!
How many flutes???
Two, upcut on a S3 with belt Z.
I have a similar bit that is 4" OAL and I just tell CC it is a #251.
When I use that long bit I have to pause often and check that it has not come loose in the collet. Since it is so long it gets more vibration than a shorter bit. Also when I initially install the bit I run my router because it sometimes is not rotating on center and you feel it vibrating. The long cutting length works well but there are some things that will cause problems with a really long bit.
I have used the Cadence 1/4" Extended Reach Upcut bit several times.
Here’s the specs and recommended speeds and feeds for it. Being a longer bit during the cutting you can definitely tell that you can’t run it very fast once you get in very deep.
Diameter: .250"
Overall length: 3.00"
Flutes: 2
Flute length: 1.50" (Relieved Shank Allowing for 2.00" Depth of Cut)
Coating: Zirconium Nitride
F/S: 80IPM, 40 Plunge, 13k RPM, 40% Step
Also as Guy pointed out it’s important to pause every now and then to check that it hasn’t slipped.
